Save a Heart: Tips to a Healthy Heart

Every year thousands of Americans die due to heart disease. Both men and women are affected by diseases of the heart, many of which are preventable. Heart disease can be preventable with a variety of different changes in lifestyle. Some of these changes include:

  • Get Active

  • Eat Clean

  • Quit Smoking

  • Drink in Moderation

Get Active:

Staying active is important for a healthy heart. Exercising daily is a key strategy in preventing heart disease. Aerobic exercises are best for heart health! They stimulate your heart to work harder and contribute to your overall well-being. This will help you sleep better, stay in shape, and have a clear mind.

Eat Clean:

Your nutrition is vital to having a healthy lifestyle. Try to make healthy food choices like more fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean meats, and low-fat dairy products. Cut out refined sugars, saturated fats, and an overabundance of salt which could all negatively affect your heart health.

Quit Smoking:

Smoking negatively affects your health in many ways. Smoking is a major cause of cardiovascular disease and causes about one in every four deaths from CVD. Exposure to secondhand smoke can also cause heart disease.

Drink in Moderation:

If you drink alcohol, do so in moderation by limiting consumption to no more than 1 drink a day for women (2 for men) on days that alcohol is consumed. Those who drink in moderation have a 20% lower risk of dying from heart disease.
