National Nutrition Month: What You Should Know

March is National Nutrition Month and with that comes a lot of tips, tricks, and resources to help you! However, it might be a bit overwhelming at first if you don’t know where to start. Thankfully, you don’t have to worry because our team put together this list to help you move in the right direction!

Understand Your Body

What you might have eaten when you were a freshman in college is hopefully not the same thing that you are turning to as you get older. As you grow up and evolve as a person, so do the needs of your body. You cannot rely on ramen for dinner four nights a week or those late-night snack breaks in-between studying. Now that you are older, it essential that you are getting enough of the right nutrients in your body! You should also understand that what works for one person might not work for you. Everyone is different and it is essential that you listen to your body when putting together your meals.

Plan Ahead

Most of us are running from one place to the next, often forgetting about eating until we hear our stomachs rumbling. Before we know it, it is 8 PM and we still haven’t eaten dinner and we are too tired to cook anything healthy. This is how bad habits form. It is essential that we create a good plan for ourselves in order to avoid the convenience of bad foods. When we plan ahead, we give ourselves time to properly prepare our meals ensuring we hit all the essential food groups!

Pick The Right Snacks

How many of us are guilty of mindlessly snacking on something while we binge-watch whatever is trending on Netflix. If you answered yes, then this section is for you! Eating snacks is perfectly okay, however, it is when the snacks become unhealthy and out of proportion that you can find yourself feeling sluggish. Prepping healthy snacks such as chips and hummus, apples and peanut butter, vegetables and dip is an easy way to have something ready to go whenever you’re in the snacking mood. These healthy snacks can help you maintain your energy levels throughout the day.

Drink Your Water

It is very important that you are drinking enough water each day. Your body is constantly losing water throughout the day. In order to prevent hydration, you should be drinking about 2 liters, or half a gallon of water a day. It is important that even when you don’t feel like you are thirsty that you are still sipping on your water.

National Nutrition Month was initiated in 1973 and is celebrated every single March. It is important that we are taking care of our bodies every single day through proper nutrition, hydration, and rest.
